David Kendall (Speaker)

Artist Information

David Kendall is York born and bred, a distinction he shares with Dame Judi Dench, Frankie Howerd and Guy Fawkes.

From 1950-55 he was a chorister in York Minster and for the next 5 years attended St Peter’s School.

Upon leaving school he worked in a Chartered Accountants office and then in the Sales Department of the Chocolate Company, Rowntrees.

During this 5 year period, he played piano and guitar in a dance band and then a cabaret group.

In 1965 he joined Barclays Bank and prior to his early retirement in 1990, he was the manager of the York University branch for 5 years.  He is well known on the after-dinner speaking circuit as “the Bank Manager from York”.

Married with 3 children he lives on the outskirts of York in the village of Nether Poppleton.

His hobbies include music (both playing and listening), the theatre, cricket, and both codes of Rugby football.

He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
